Sunday was again sunny and had the same forecast. People arrived around noon and practiced in light wind conditions of 10-12. At about 4, we had a skipper’s meeting and decided to run 3 heats of 5 minutes for each group. The 3rd heat would be run with 4 sailors and be the final. In the novice final, Alissa ran against men on a small board of 85 l. and benefitted by a sudden wind surge that had her planing into gybe pirouettes and hoss tacks. In the amateur final, the wind backed backed off from planing, but sailors made due on short boards-Mike again coming out on top with a pro light wind performance that included one handed geckos and a boomerang move of his own called the guillotine.

Trophies were given out to the top three places in each group. Peter Kimball, Ted Bonner, Mike Burns, and Fred Vetterlein helped run the event, and Nancy and Doug Sheely provided the great barbeque. All the sailors learned new tricks, and hopefully new people will be inspired by the skills bought to Cape Cod for the weekend.

Novice Class:
1. Alissa Inman
2. Ed Dehart
3. Dr.Cliff Gluck

Amateur
1. Mike Burns
2. Johnathon Sasson
3. Chris Eldridge

Sunday update

Sat. was a low wind practice day.  We had about 15 sailors practicing freestyle.  Nikita brought his Vulcan practice machine-showed clew first boomerangs, and flakas, and challenged sailors to invent tricks. The wind teased at 6 with 50 % planning conditions.  Then everyone was invited to Doug and Nancy Sheely’s house for barbeque.

The wind is now 15 and will continue the sw direction so W. Dennis is the meeting place for today.  We will compete at some point after we give the wind a chance to build.

Wind update

Wind is on the rise here, and even though it is still not windy enough for a competition all signs show that the wind will increase in the evening. So we are planing to meet around 5 at West Dennis and see if we can run some heats today. Keep checking in for more info and hope to see ya at w.dennis.

P.S. Those who were around yesterday morning report that they had good time freestyling at Lewis Bay and at Chapin.

Frenzy update

Last few days were quite good for freestyle on the cape. I've gotten out on wednesday at Chapin with Scott and few other windsurfers in the morning for a big air session and then met with Mike Burns and Spencer at Kalmus for a flat water session. I've heard that Mike and Cliff had gotten out yesterday as well and the wind did look good.
The level has gone up a lot so expect to see some big moves this weekend if the wind cooperates.
Right now the forecast does not look especialy impressive but it all can change in an instant so keep checking in. At the moment it looks like Sunday is the day to watch.

P.S. Get out now if you can Kalmus looks pretty good with gusts to 24 mph

Frenzy Update

The first Underground Freestyle Frenzy will go off the weekend of June 16,17. The action will be wind dependent and time and place will be planned around wind speed and direction. Be on the cape that weekend if you are interested. And watch this blog for up to date info. Sailors will be arriving Wednesday and we’ll keep you informed of the place to sail.
In those two days, the first time we have planing conditions, we’re having a competition. It should take an afternoon or morning. If we still have only light wind by Sunday afternoon, then we’ll run light wind heats. There will be two or three judges. And we can have 5 min elimination heats like last year. Two heats will get us to the finals with four sailors.

The kids aren’t around because of father’s day. There can be a novice and amateur group.

Participating sailors as of this date:

Michael J Burns
Sergey Andreev
Chris Eldridge
Dr. Cliff Gluck
Johnathon Sassone
Bill Reid
Tom Whittmore
Alissa Inman
Nikita Piankov

If you'd like to participate, just leave your name in a coment to this post, with some optional information you'd like us to know, and we will see you this weekend!
